With a rather lackluster cinema awards season, can an indie love story break through the awards politicking to win some hardware?

To date, the film has been nominated 81 times and won 19 awards. Ruth Negga is nominated for this year’s Academy Awards for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.

“Loving” is an unexpected love story that oozes soulmate love but in a quiet manner. Richard Loving was not a flashy man. He was a simpleton, just wanting to work on his cars, love his wife and have a family. Unfortunately, they found love in the height of the civil rights movement where interracial dating was illegal in parts of the country. Their love story is an incredible journey throughout one of the more turbulent times in modern history.

This film is a slow burn, but the performances make it worth the watch.

The Blu-Ray DVD loaded with extras for those history buffs who want to know more about these remarkable people, especially fascinating the featurette “Loving v. Virginia”. If you are an avid film lover, this is one you will want to have in your collection.
