You know you’ve made it when your play is being acted out in film by cartoon gnomes.

Based on the Shakespeare tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, the garden gnomes of two English homes, The Capulets (Red Home) and the Montagues (Blue Home) have been feuding for ages, as do their human owners. Between lawnmower races, pranks gone wrong, a rare Cupid’s Orchid and a weird pink Flamingo, these are the very events that bring out star-crossed lovers Gnomeo (James McAvoy – voice) and Juliet (Emily Blunt – voice) together.

When Juliet’s cousin Tybalt (Jason Statham- voice) cheats during the lawnmower race, Gnomeo and fellow gnome Benny (Matt Lucas- voice) decide to teach the blue gnomes a lesson, it’s a prank that goes wrong, igniting a vicious feud that escalates to an all out war. Can Gnomeo and Juliet overcome their families’ hatred for each other and run away to live happily ever after?

To say that this film is formulaic to many other of the animated flick that have been release over the past 10 years, is an understatement. Yet with that statement, it’s what works. Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo & Juliet has been retold millions of times but not one of them stands out being performed with garden tools. Add in some rockin’ Elton John songs to enhance the mood and you have an entertaining family film. Parents will like it as there are quite a few adult jokes and innuendos that will fly over the kiddo’s heads; girls will like the love story and boys will like the fight scenes and lawnmower races.

Things to watch for: How many Elton John songs can you recognize? Lots of adult jokes & innuendos, sweet ninja gnome moves & lawnmower races.

Who should see this movie: Fans of Elton John Music; Fans of Gnomes; Fans of Shakespeare Modern Day Retellings; Fans of movies like Shrek; Fans of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Jason Statham, Ozzy Osbourne, Jim Cummings, Stephen Merchant, Patrick Stewart, Ashley Jensen, Matt Lucas, Julie Walters, Richard Wilson, Hulk Hogan

See it in the Theater or Rent it on DVD:
Great movie for the family to see & looks good in 3D. If you can see in theater.
